INDEPENDENT DAYS FESTIVAL 2003

07 September 2003

The Independent Days Festival 2003 had probably the strongest lineup ever since the fest was born: Rancid, Cramps, Radio Birdman, Lagwagon, Nashville Pussy, AFI, Mad Caddies, Punx Crew... It was a hell of a lot of fun, with lots of high-profile bands for a very very cheap price (30 euro). Here are some pics of the day, but if you want to see more photos of AFI, Cramps and Rancid, just click on their names to go to their separate pages: I had too many pics, to fit just in this page!
Also, a big thankyou to mister Max Squillace, who lent us his van, so we could organize a big trip with many people. Hope he can lend us the van for next summer's holidays too... but, well, that's a whole story you don't care about I guess :-)

The pass to get in. Yeah, it's signed. By whom? Try to figure out.
Davey Havok starting to warm things up.
Davey puts all his passion into his singing.
If you want to see more pics of AFI taken this day, click here.
Lagwagon! They played their set "standing in line". This means they were all on the same line, all equally distant from the edge of the stage. Drummer included!!!
Joey Cape and a giant. Scary!
Joey shows off his bulge... ahaha!
One of the two Chris playing the guitar (both guitarists are called Chris!), and Dave Raun playing the drums behind him! It's actually just a camera-effect. Cause, I told you, they were playing on a line!
Meanwhile, backstage, interviews were being held. Look at the bunch of journalists, and among them you'll spot the bushy hair of The Mars Volta! Being asked question upon question, relentlessly! Ah... the fun world of backstages...
Now Nashville Pussy take the stage. They played a tight set, but without all the sexy bits that make their shows unique... and more interesting!
As usual, Blaine Cartwright lets the guitar play him, and not the other way around.
How big the stage looks... I am used to seeing the Pussy in small smoky clubs!
Ruyter Suys does her bit of "being played by the guitar" too!
Aw, what a sweet, sweet couple... Blaine and Ruyter and indeed married!
Now, CatieLynn shows how to treat a bass-guitar properly. Isn't she amazingly sexxxy????
Radio Birdman got back together for one last tour. Thanks, guys!
They flew their way from Australia, to show us that old-school rock is still relevant and kicking. And look at how Rob Younger is still posing, as the singer.
Deniz Tek. For some reason, he reminds me of Bill Gates. LOL.
Awww... for once, you get to see the drummer and the drumkit.
The band played for a hour, giving their best shot at it, never seemingly getting tired.
This is the only shot that came out decently at the PUNX CREW gig on the second stage. I was too busy pogoing and singing, and the place was crowded! The band is a super-supergroup of around 25 of the top playes in the italian punk scene. It's a project masterminded by Olly of Shandon and by Madbones, but there's so many talented players in it, and their cd ("1976-2003") is so good. In the pic, you see Miki (now ex-) singer of Le Bambole Di Pezza, singng her song, "Traditore". It was a great one-off show (for obsvious reasons, they can't play live very often...), I was very happy I could wtiness that.
Then, it was time for The Cramps. Here's their singer Lux Interior, still a mad rocker in leather, despite having been around for like 30 years!
And this is his wife Poison Ivy, equally a mad rocker.
Rancid's Tim Armstrong hammered away on his guitar and introduced us to their headlining set.
Lars Frederiksen helped him out with vocal dues. It was a very intense show, even if a bit too short (70 minutes only... everyone craved for more, at the end!). A great way to finish a great festival. This 2003 edition ruled.
