GRAVE DIGGER

20 January 2004
Transilvania Live, Milano (Italy)

Grave Digger are my favourite germans. There's loads of heavy metal bands coming from Germany of course, but none strikes me as Grave Digger does. So, I was so happy to finally see them in a club, instead of a Gods of Metal concert. So I could feel the sweat and the passion coming out of the band. It was amazing.

Chris Boltendahl. Obviously happy to be here.
Good old Uncle Reaper. You can see the passion in his eyes...
Behind all the colours and shades (and behind the drumkit) there was also the Reaper, playing the keyboard. All hail the Reaper... and Hans Peter Katzenburg.
Manni Schmidt up close and personal.
And Jens Becker, the bass player.
Chrisa again. My god, he was SO into the music...
Look at the look in his eyes. A man really possessed by metal. He's even playing air guitar to his own tunes!
HEAVY METAAAAL!
Manni and Peter did a great job with their instruments, even if, admittedly, it was Chris himself stealing the show...
God of bass.
Most of the set was based on the latest "Rheingold" album, but of course all the classics were there, with a surprising accent also on "Knights of the cross". The odd thing was that only two songs were taken from their most successful album, "Tunes of war". They chose "In the dark of the sun" and, of course... "Rebellion!"
"The clans are marching against the law / bagpipers playin' the tunes of was / death or glory I will find... REBELLION on my mind!".
What a way to finish off their concert... a great memory!
Now, you can legitimately ask a question: "Was Paolo The Punisher about to be crushed under Chris' boots, in this photo?".
Ahahaha! You will never know.
