CLAM ABUSE
05 August 1999

This was FUN!!! And I'm glad it was, since the whole "Clam Abuse" concept was based solely on fun. They had one record out, they toured and, probably, they've split after the short Uk Tour.
What else could you expect from Ginger, the crazy ex-Wildhearts singer?
But,mind you, this was not a Wildhearts concert and it's pretty sad to think some people went there hoping to listen to half a set of Wildhearts song.Ginger was not even going by his "real" name.Oh,no,he is Clam Savage. Together with Clint Abuse, they stormed the stage.Without a bass player or a drummer.Really!
Before thir set there were supporting acts by Tyla and Sack Trick. If you wanna see the photos of those sets, click here! But now, let's get ready for the spectacle!!! (If you want to read Ginger's own review of the show, just go to his own personal homepage, Silver Ginger!

Meet Steve and Gary. They provided a very entertaining intro and then an intermission.Any man who can entertain me with an ukulele is cool.Especially if halfway through their "set" they start spelling "Fantastic" and instead, for a bad luck error, they make the whole audience spell "Fuck You"...!

Steve again. In the background you can see some guys and gals from the Wildhearts mailing list: (from the left) half of Darren's face (he's the webmaster of SIlver Ginger actually!),Tara (in green), Pat (in leopardskin) with Mark (half-covered by a bug!), and then, just off the pic,James, who was standing on the balcony next to the pretty girl on the very left of the pic (he said he went to the show with two beautiful lasses whom he didn't know but who were very friendly and went with him anyway...lucky devil!).Oh,and among those people you can also see the Black Crowes' singer and guitarist, plus some assorted Rachel Stamp members!

And here they are.Getting onstage like the true rockstars they are, looking for some "true metal".

Clint (whose hand you can see here, hidden behind Clam) was really into devil's horns...actually he kept making them to a point that I got hooked on it and I spent most of the following day making them at anything cool around London... Oh,and I even managed to have him look in my eyes while we were pointing our "horns" at each other... Now,THAT is cool...

The first song on the set was "Message to Geri". Cue random acts of pogo, jumping, bruising and singing along. And ALL the members of the supporting bands came onstage to sing it.In this pic you can see Tyla in full Clam Abuse makeup!Chris McCormack was joining in,too,as did his brother Danny (Who played backing guitar during Tyla's set),and...well,there were like 20 people on that SMALL stage!

Some more "messaging" madness.Everyone was singing about Ginger wanting to send a message to Geri, and miss Halliwell still didn't arrive. What a rude girl, she is.

Meet Clam Savage. His hat was covered in wheat (or maybe chalk?).He threw it to the audience at the end of the gig,and a fistfight was avoided only cause Clam Abuse fans are the best fans ever!

Here's a closeup on Clam, with his cool makeup. The makeup held for most of the show, wearing off only in some bits.I wanna makeup like him now,no more Kiss! :-)

Clint Savage making a point with Clam and the audience. He said he had come all the way from America for English people. He had done it to talk about Americans. (The audience was boo-ing at this point!) He had something to say... "Sorry for being American! We suck!".LOL.

Now that harmony was reached,Clint and Alex Kane (erm...ok...Clint) and Clam sing happily together.

Special guest Julie! She's Unlucky in Love, you see. She has this GREAT body,a GREAT voice and is also a nice girl, but I am not sure I would like to make passes on her, seeing that her rooster of ex-lovers include choked-up,decapitated and heart-stroke guys, and even a spontaneous combustion. But,hey, everyone loved her, since her song got the biggest singalong chorus from the audience!!! It was SO cool!

Clint and Clam making "the metal thing".Clint kept saying there was too much false metal in England, and they had come to fix this. And then they started acting like Manowar. Way to go,guys!
In this photo you can also see what's written on the back of Ginger's guitar.Someone asked about it on the Silver Ginger forum (where you can ask questions to Ginger himself),and he said he could not reveal it cause it's a personal thng.Well,I guess it's a scoop, then!!!! :-)

Clam's makeup was fading a bit,but not too much!If you have sharp eyes, you can read the tracklist!Ok,if you can't here it is: Message to Geri, I think I love you, She's so taboo, .Com together, Give the girl a gun, Falling in bed with you again, Unlucky in love, Sunday driving, Let's get it on, Skychaser high, For that girl everything is groovy, There's always someone more fucked up than you. What a set! And,yeah, they played two Wildhearts songs too!!!

Clam striking his last chords during the "There's always someone more fucked up than you" madness... Everyone was pogoing,my knees were crushed against the stage (so I kind of got ON stage!),and Clint smashed his guitar to pieces to celebrate the ending of the tour. Ginger said "In time, this may stand up as being a classic "you should have been there"-type thing, or merely a good night out with some music." Well, you know what my answer is,mister!!!See ya soon in another fun-filled project, Ginger!
